relaxing weekend.
it’s nice to have a quiet, close to home weekend every once and a while. this was ours.
it included. ramos gin fizzes – sunset picnics – bike rides – movies about space – bookstores – many walks – sangria – a concrete beach – sunshine – and puppies
recipes.
i’ve concocted a handful of really ejoyable happy hour cocktails in the past month. they are sprinkled randomly throughout my tumblr blog. but i though i would condense them here for good measure.
balsamic martini – vodka, balsamic vinegar, a big fresh strawberry.
(you absolutely have to like balsamic vinegar in order to enjoy this)
super mango cocktail – vodka, soda water, lemon juice, lavender simple syrup, mango sherbet and a mango slice.
end of the summer garden extravaganza – gin, soda water, lavender simple syrup, orange blossom water, a bit of lemon, and a strawberry.
the salty dog – vodka, grapefruit juice, lime, sea salt.
a different kind of gimlet – lavendar infused gin, sugar cube, lemon juice, lime juice.
and one more shot of the balsamic martini because it looked so cool.
oh wow!
so i got freshly pressed? that’s pretty flippin’ cool! whats cooler is all the new people who have liked and commented on my blog. thank you guys! i’m really happy you like my work. i will certainly keep it coming.
i’ve gotten 2 common questions that i will answer here instead of in the comments.
#1 is can you post my images elsewhere? and the answer is yes, totally. just please please give credit or link back to here. or both.
number two is how do i make my illustrations. i will say they are a good 50% real painitng and 50% photoshop. i did a post on my methods a while back. if you like you can read it here. things always change, but the basics of it is all there.
anyways. i thank all you new comers for enjoying my stuff!
some videos.
i added a new page to my blog. look all the way to the right you will see that there is now a video page!
check it out to see all the little videos fred and i have worked on together. right now they are strictly stop motion. but! the one we are in the middle of right now will be new and different. i think you will like it.
enjoy!
mediums.
i did a few sketches a while ago of a kingdom but abandoned it shortly after. so i gave it to fred and he made it into a super awesome 3d kingdom extravaganza! it’s pretty fun to see how a concept can take on a new life in a new medium.
summer is over?
way too soon! i had no idea that the fantasticaly warm spring we had here was pretty much the best of it. so here we are in the netherlands at the end of july and it’s been raining for two months and i finally bought my first raincoat. don’t i look thrilled.
but look how cute that pup is. how can you stay sad with a pup like that.
video
since the cat camera takes video, i thought i might as well take some videos. so i set up a vimeo account. it’s very sad right now, but i’ll make more videos soon. and cat camera has no view finder, so this is all very… experimental.
here is a video of battleship potemkin at the park.
one shoe three ways.
i bought these white shoes when i first moved to new york 5 years ago. they were white then.
after years of running around they became disgusting. a brownish yellow color. not cute. so i dyed them black which ended up coming out grey.
and last week i decided they needed an upgrade. so out came white fabric paint and now i have polka-dot shoes. why buy new shoes when you have paint on hand.
this is a post about beer.
a few weeks ago i went to the rijksmuseum. they have a lot of old dutch still lifes (if you can imagine). these paintings are so beautiful and usually feature decadent flowers and food and glassware, etc. this one had this long glass tube with rings around it. with a little more reading i discovered that it was a device for a very old dutch beer drinking game. you have to drink the beer down to the next ring. if you don’t hit the ring you have to keep going to the next ring until you hit the mark.
sounded fun to me! so i told fred about it and we went and got materials and made the game.
remember this.
well, we filled it…. mostly.
and played!
my thoughts- it was fun. you really have to like beer to play this. and be careful because it turns out to be a lot of beer! it’s not super hard, but it does get harder the more you play (duh). fred is way better at it than i.
