i set up a new workspace this week. i’m really loving it. as you can tell i work best in clutter.
and with lots of giraffes.
a good bottle of whiskey.
and some good fitzgerald.
so i got freshly pressed? that’s pretty flippin’ cool! whats cooler is all the new people who have liked and commented on my blog. thank you guys! i’m really happy you like my work. i will certainly keep it coming.
i’ve gotten 2 common questions that i will answer here instead of in the comments.
#1 is can you post my images elsewhere? and the answer is yes, totally. just please please give credit or link back to here. or both.
number two is how do i make my illustrations. i will say they are a good 50% real painitng and 50% photoshop. i did a post on my methods a while back. if you like you can read it here. things always change, but the basics of it is all there.
anyways. i thank all you new comers for enjoying my stuff!
summer is incoming. time to get the uniform together. i am the type of girl who wears the same things over and over again. even though i have too many articles of clothing and shoes and this and that, i probably rotate the same 5 things for weeks on end. and here is what i have decided.

it will be the year of sunglasses chains. orange lips. a giant headscarf to cover my crazy growning out hair. and maybe a collar. (on a side note does anyone else get really annoyed if a button up shirt is not buttoned up all the way to the top? super pet peeve of mine)
add some black boots with patterned socks. then some shorts. and there you have it!
my uniform fit for summer in amsterdam!
though. it is also nice to have:
a cute second in command.
seedlings to experiment with.
and an inconspicuous spy camera. (yes that is a tiny camera in the shape of a cat!)
it all started with bleaching my hair white white blonde and having a lot of fun. then self dying over it to get back to my natural red hair turned it pink. pink!!!! i don’t have a picture of this because it was embarrassing and awful. so before the dye job even really dried i drank a few glasses of wine and gave myself a buzz cut with scissors. and spent a year or so re-buzzing it and looking like a little boy.
now since its been about 8 years since i’ve had long hair, i’m going through the painful process of growing it out. i don’t know if you’ve ever grown out a weird hack-job buzz cut, but every 2 weeks is another awkward stage. and right now i look like a messy 1960s nondescript band member and hair is always in my face and it just won’t cooperate. i’m dreaming of a few months from now when i will have something resembling a bob and be happy again.
(please excuse the vain nature of this post. i’m at my wits end with my hair right now. it’s all i can do not to shave it all off again.)
being sick is maddening. i’m about to go collect some antioxidants and bring them back to inject straight into my bloodstream. or just eat/drink/eat them. while laying around on the floor feeling all sort of woozy.weary.weathered i took some pictures of things i put on my windowsills.
important tools
a birth
a wooden fan
some science
some kept time.
and firework giraffe.
potemkin was an alright photo assistant.
also! earlier this week before i was contaminated i made the skeleton a friend in teal.
in the last post i spoke of stop motion projects. i realize i haven’t posted any on this blog yet! fred and i like to work on little side stop motion films in our time off. here are two, the first one is our most recent one and the only one we’ve completed ( so far ) in amsterdam. and the second one was a tiny homage to my dear departed psycho killer cat.
i’ll post my favorite stop motion next week ( it is a fast paced jazz rendition on how to make my favorite drink ) and soon we will be finished with our second amsterdam based video.
while painting and sketching today i had a nonstop stream of woody allen movies playing in the background. i could play his movies on and on for days. weeks. years. the mix of humor, stress, romance, intellect and art really resonates with me. i relate to any character woody allen plays and yes, i am a girl.
i can walk city streets for miles while obsessing over some small moment/look/conversation that happened the previous night.
